About Staying Warm: A Plan of Action
Wondering how you’re going to manage the costs of heating a home this winter? You’re far from alone. It’s no secret that sky-rocketing prices of fuel and the long heating season in Maine will combine to present some challenging situations for the people of Maine. Should you stick with oil? Is it time to fire up the wood-stove? What’s the best way to improve insulation without breaking the bank? As the temperatures start to drop, Mainers from all walks of life will be looking for strategies to cope with this reality, and we at MPBN would like to do our part to help you make informed decisions as you prepare.
Navigating all the options and sources of information might be a bit overwhelming, but New Media News Producer Barbara Cariddi, working with our web and news departments, will be working to sift through it all to bring you the best.
We’re taking this issue pretty seriously here at MPBN because we know that public broadcasting shares a responsibility to keep the public informed and safe. To that end, “Staying Warm”, while anchored primarily on the web, will also encompass some radio and television programming. Keep an ear out for some midday radio call-ins. They’ll be a great chance to get trustworthy advice and hear how fellow Mainers are putting their ingenuity and experience to good use. And Jennifer Rooks and the Maine Watch crew will be devoting several episodes to this topic as well. It’s our belief that the more we can make these issues a matter of public discussion before the weather turns cold, the less likely we are to have to confront an unforeseen tragedy.
